The 2010 GKTA Kick-Off Classic will take place February 19-21, 2010 and play will be co-hosted this year by Cedar Bluff Racquet Club and Knoxville Racquet Club. After many years of requests this year's Classic will now offer senior divisions. All divisions, however, will still be limited to draws of 16, which will be strictly enforced by the tournament director. Entries are now open on Tennislink and players are advised to sign up early. The City of Knoxville invested $259,273.00 in helping get Phase I completed in 2008. With the successful partnership of GKTA and The City of Knoxville for Phase I, we have high hopes that the City of Knoxville will partner with us to complete Phase II. The GKTA is hoping for matching funds from the City of Knoxville in 2010. Now, Phase II of the West Hills Tennis Center Rescue project is within grasp. The cost of Phase II is estimated to be $250,000-300,000. In addition to existing fundraising opportunities, an exciting new fundraising project has been undertaken by Tommy Mozur’s family and friends as a memorial.
Muffy Vineyard, owner of long time GKTA volunteer and tennis enthusiast Nancy Vineyard, has set out on a mission to help get the West Hills Tennis Center Rescue project completed by selling millions of dollars in brick pavers. (Keep in mind dog dollars and human dollars are not one and the same.) The GKTA and City of Knoxville are partnering together in hopes of getting Phase II completed in 2010. Muffy and the GKTA must first raise the funds needed to reach this lofty goal. GKTA family members are encouraged to purchase bricks/pavers as gifts or memorials. Bricks will be used to cover the concrete blocks of the WHTC clubhouse first.
